Why start with SSTA?

The difference is in the route and how you learn

In this comparison, SSTA is the route that combines the named Active IQ sports-massage qualification with a beginner starting point, a maximum group of ten and a clearly explained tutor-feedback process in Chichester.

That does not make every alternative unsuitable. It means they should not be presented as interchangeable. Brighton School of Massage describes a private accredited diploma, the ProActive page is historical and aimed at prior-qualified learners, and the local college listing is for Swedish massage rather than sports massage.

A named qualification you can verify

SSTA identifies the exact course as the Active IQ Level 3 Technical Specialist in Sports Massage Therapy (Diploma), qualification number 610/3925/1. That is a more useful starting point than relying on “Level 3” alone, because the award and its scope can be checked before you enrol.

A genuine beginner foundation

The SSTA route is presented for people building their first sports-massage foundation. The historical ProActive page in this comparison was aimed at people arriving with relevant prior qualifications, while the Chichester College option is a different Swedish Massage certificate. Those are different starting points, not cheaper versions of the same course.

Tutor-observed practice in a small group

SSTA caps the Level 3 group at ten learners. Demonstration is followed by supervised repetition, direct feedback and questions about why a treatment is appropriate. The point is not simply to watch techniques; it is to have your consultation, treatment decisions, client care and professional boundaries seen and refined.

Sports massage in Chichester—not a lookalike route

SSTA teaches the sports-massage qualification in person in Chichester; the venue for each group is confirmed in writing before you pay. The local college page included below is useful precisely because it shows how easily a nearby Level 3 Swedish Massage Certificate can be mistaken for an equivalent sports-massage course when the titles are skimmed.

What the SSTA difference looks like

Practical training is more than attendance

A list of classroom days cannot tell you how practice is taught. SSTA describes a cycle of demonstration, supervised repetition, feedback and questioning so learners develop technique alongside professional judgement.

Consultation before technique

Learn to take a relevant history, recognise contraindications and use what you find to plan an appropriate Level 3 treatment.

Feedback while you practise

Tutor demonstration leads into repeated hands-on work, observation and direct correction rather than technique being left as something to interpret alone.

Judgement as well as movement

You are questioned about why a treatment is suitable, how it should be adapted and when Level 3 practice should stop or refer.

A route into responsible practice

Assessment preparation connects knowledge, a case study, practical observation, questioning and client care instead of treating them as unrelated tasks.

Methodology

What each field must mean

Facts are taken from linked provider or awarding-body pages. Historical and non-equivalent routes are labelled. Corrections can be sent to faz@serioussportstrainingacademy.com.

Qualification route: The exact award and recognition route, kept separate from broad words such as accredited or recognised.
Attendance: The sessions a learner must attend. Attendance is not automatically the same as supervised practical time.
Supervised practical time: Hands-on work observed or supported by a tutor, kept separate from case studies and independent practice.
Complete cost: Tuition plus any compulsory assessment, registration, equipment, insurance, first-aid or resit costs.
