Nutrition Coach Salary and Coaching Income

The National Careers Service nutritionist profile describes a route usually involving a degree or postgraduate qualification approved by the Association for Nutrition. Its pay figures cover that occupation. They do not establish pay for someone completing a nutrition coaching course, so this guide does not reuse them.

The Association for Nutrition also distinguishes training for the wider workforce from professional nutritionist registration. Its 2023–24 annual report explains that completing a certified course does not itself confer a professional title. These sources were checked on 8 September 2026; neither establishes an earnings outcome for SSTA’s planned route.

A coaching package needs clear boundaries: who it is for, what support is included, how often reviews take place and how much contact the client can expect. Check those activities against your actual training and insurance. An attractive package price does not make a service appropriate to deliver.

For an employed wellbeing or coaching vacancy, read the full requirements and guaranteed gross pay. For an independent service, establish the time needed for each client, including preparation, messages and records. If coaching is included inside a personal training package, do not count the same sale twice as two separate incomes.

Compare money over the same period and for the same amount of work. An employed gross annual salary is pay before deductions. A session fee is a sale to a client; add completed, paid bookings to find business turnover. Profit is what remains after business costs. Personal take-home also depends on tax, pension provision and other commitments.

The examples below are simplified planning exercises. All prices, bookings and costs are invented inputs, not SSTA prices, market averages or predictions. They do not calculate taxable profit or personal take-home. Check which expenses are allowable under the rules for your circumstances.

Suppose six clients each pay an invented £80 for a defined month of non-clinical coaching within the practitioner’s verified scope. Turnover would be £480. Assume £80 for software, insurance allocation and other operating costs: £400 remains before tax and personal provisions. Neither the price nor the client count is a market estimate or SSTA offer.

If each client needs two hours across calls, preparation and messages, plus six hours of shared administration and marketing, the total is eighteen hours. The remainder is about £22.22 per working hour. An extra hour of contact per client raises total work to twenty-four hours and reduces that figure to about £16.67. Client acquisition, cancellations and initial training costs need separate consideration.

For nutrition coaching work around Chichester, collect current vacancies and actual quotes within a journey you can sustain. Record contracted hours, duties and guaranteed pay separately from commission or possible client income. For independent work, investigate software, room or online delivery arrangements, suitable insurance and time spent obtaining clients. Compare a quiet period with a sustainable regular week, and allow for holidays, illness and cancellations.
